The News Herald: Breaking news coverage for Southgate, MI
Woodhaven the heavy favorite to claim N-H boys’ crown

Predictions don’t come much easier than this.

Unless the bus gets lost on the way to Young Patriots Park on Saturday, Woodhaven’s boys will win a sixth straight News-Herald Cross Country Invitational title.

The defending champions were unbeaten during the Downriver League season and have maintained the level of excellence the Warriors created during their five-year stranglehold on the top spot.

“They feel confident and they know what they want to do,” Coach Mike Dennisuk said of his team, which was 18th at Saturday’s Portage Invitational.

“We had a good run at Portage and they feel like the training is paying off.”

Nick Perry, Azam Khan and Grant Truskowski have led the pack all season for the Warriors, who view the N-H meet as the opening of their playoff season.

“They train pretty hard and this is the time of the year we train for Dennisuk added. “They’re pretty confident.”
