Williamston sweeps coaches track meet

JENISON – Williamston’s boys and girls track and field teams captured Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association Division 2 team state titles on Saturday.

For the boys, Hornet first place finishers included Nick Rainey in the pole vault (14-6) and the 400-meter relay team of Austin Palmer, Chad Rhiness, Cam Lounsbury and Ryan Brooks. The team set a meet record time of 43.12. Brooks finished second in the 200 with a school record time of 21.92.

Individual champions for the girls included Tori Freeman in the shot put (36-8), Leanne Selinger in the 100 (12.96), the 400 relay team of Mallory Metzer, Cassidy Metzer, Liz Dutcher and Selinger (51.58) and the 3200 relay team of Emma Drenth, Shelby Guile, Lauren Halm and Hannah Grischke (9:34.42).

Kyle Lark took first place in the shot put for Alma with a throw of 52-3.

• DIVISON 1: The Grand Ledge boys took third place at Saturday’s MITCA meet.

Brockton Feltman won the 3,200 (9:55.72) and took second in the 1,600 for the Comets.

Chad Beatty placed second in the 110 hurdles (15.54) and third in the long jump (19-03).

• DIVISION 3 BOYS: Nick Thurlby won the 110 hurdles (15:16) and 300 hurdles (39.42) as Maple Valley took third in the MITCA state championships.

The Lions’ Jeff Burd won the 400 (49.98) and 200 (22.69).

Mark List led Laingsburg, which finished in eighth place, by winning the 3,200 in 9:43.39.

• DIVISION 4 BOYS: Two Potterville relay teams won as the Vikings finished in second place with a score of 1,284.

A team of Kyle Lamb, Larry Julson, Tyler Carter and Nick Fliestra won the 3,200 relay with a time of 8:17.6. The Vikings also won the 1,600 relay with a team of Frankie Diaz, Lamb, Kodi Carter and Collin Ward.

Other winners were Larry Julson in the 3,200 and 1,600, and Collin Ward in the 800.

Webberville finished 10th place with a score of 620.50 and Dansville followed in 11th place with 572.

Warren Witchell took second in the 1,600 for the Aggies.
