Whitehall boys win thriller, Reeths-Puffer girls cruise at GMAA city track meet

The Whitehall boys track team needed some late heroics to claim its fourth straight Greater Muskegon Athletic Association city track title on Friday at Oakridge High School.

The Vikings trailed Muskegon 85-82 entering the final event – the 1,600-meter relay – but Whitehall ran away from the field with Christian Subdon running a strong anchor leg to win the race and clinch the team championship.

“We had it figured out down to a couple of points and we knew it was going to be close,” Whitehall coach Kirk Mikkelson said. “That is exactly what happened and we were fortunate to win the 1,600.”
