St. Joseph’s boys track and field team won two of the first three events in Friday’s Division 2 regional at Sturgis.

Whether or not that strong start yields a regional crown will not be decided until this afternoon as thunder and lightning forced the meet to be suspended at around the halfway mark.

Seven boys events and six girls events had been completed when the meet was put in a delay due to thunder at about 6:45 p.m. A little more than 30 minutes later officials suspended the meet until noon today.

The girls pole vault, which had already been postponed until today, will start at 1 p.m.

Through seven events Vicksburg leads the boys meet with 46.5 points. St. Joseph is second with 44 and defending champion Benton Harbor is third with 33. South Haven is tied for fifth with Otsego with 20 and Lakeshore is seventh with 17.
