Walled Lake Western boys and girls sweep in track
Waterford — Walled Lake Western’s boys and girls track and field teams began a rather hectic week by defeating Waterford Kettering Tuesday afternoon. The boys won 79.5-57.5 and the girls 80-52.

“I think we had a really good performance,” Western girl’s coach Michael Weiskoph said. “We moved a lot of people around because we have a big meet coming up (later this week).”

The event was the first of three this week for Western, which will host Lakeland Thursday before competing in the Kensington Lakes Athletic Association meet Saturday. For the boys, who are 3-1, a victory Thursday would put the team in a three-way tie for the division championship.

Western’s girls improved to 2-2 thanks in part to Alicia Johnson, who won the shot put and discus, and Caitlyn Melamed, who ran on the winning 800-meter and 400-meter relay teams.
Southfield 74, Birmingham Groves 54: Nikko Richie won the 400-meter dash (51.9) and the 200-meter dash (22.06) and Trevon Johnson won the 110-meter hurdles (114.94) and the 300-meter hurdles (41.6). John Stephenson won the shot put (46 feet, 4 1/2 inches) and the discus (128-4 1/2) for Groves.
