The Hornets successfully completed its dual meet season recently, hosting Ann Arbor Huron May 5 for a Southeastern Conference track and field match-up. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams won their respective meets.

The girls were victorious by a score of 100.5-36.5 and won all four relays, as well as first place in 10 individual events.

Very notable, the girls’ team swept the 200 and 300 hurdles, as well as the high jump. Hurdlers were Karen Gallardo, Dominique Blatter, Shelbi Post and Becky Stubler. High jumpers were Emily Solan, Sammy Richart and Rachel Paxton in first, second and third, respectively.

Emily Everett won the shot put, while taking third in the discus. Brooke Pleger was first in the discus and Nina DeJonghe was third in the shot put.

Corrie Castro continued to sweep the sprint events, winning the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dashes. Meghan McGregor was second in the 800-meter race.

Erin Dowling was third in the 3,200-meter race, and Alex Leptich won the 1,600 meter. Kate Carter was in second.

Winners of the 3,200-meter relay race were Dowling, Leptich, Post and Carter, while the 1,600-meter relay was won by Leptich, Carter, S. Richart and Samantha Cannell.

The win put the girls at 4-0 in the conference, with the league meet to decide on a champion between Saline and Ann Arbor Pioneer.
