Sports Preview – Boys Cross Country
The Ram boys cross country team has its work cut out for it in 2009. The returning OK Red champs will be facing stiff competition from three conference foes – Grand Haven, West Ottawa and East Kentwood. The team is setting its sights on another Red crown, a regional title and a top-three finish at the state meet for goals.

According to head coach Andrew Martin, the Rams will feel the loss of No. 1 runner George Goad and No. 5 Rich Sholtis. That is not to say, however, that Martin’s team will falter too much. The team boasts a roster of 50 and includes 10 seniors, 17 juniors, 15 sophomores and eight freshmen.

“This team has a great deal of experience,” said Martin. “We are well balanced with a great crop of upperclassmen, as well as some soon-to-be-stand-out underclassmen. All but two of our top seven runners have competed at the state meet.”
