Snowbirds open track season at Mancelona

MANCELONA — The St. Mary track and field team opened its season up Thursday at a Ski Valley Conference meet at Mancelona, with the girls taking fourth and the boys placing fifth.
The Snowbird girls put together three first-place finishes. Jessica Schmidlin won the high jump (4-7), while Nicole Blanzy took the 800-meter run (2:51).
Also placing first was the 800-meter relay team of Jamie Topp, Keri Osborne-O’Rourke, Schmidlin and Ellyn Milan.
Megan Kippe was second in the pole vault, while Michelle Samalik was second in the 800-meter run, while third-place finishes went to Jamie Topp in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and Stephanie LaRouche in the 800-meter run.
