The Huron League cross country season got rolling Tuesday with the first jamboree of the season at Sterling State Park and the day featured a close race and a runaway.

St. Mary Catholic Central slipped past Airport in a tight boys meet while Milan dominated on the girls side.

SMCC and Airport each placed four boys in the top 10, but the outcome wasn’t decided until the Falcons’ fifth man John Young came through with a 12th-place finish.

Young combined with Jeff Grzywinski (third), Nathaniel Theobold (fourth), Daniel Harras (fifth) and Jared Masserant (ninth) to give SMCC 33 points.

Airport wound up with 42.
