Senior-led Forest Hills Eastern seeks boys cross country state championship

The Forest Hills Eastern boys cross country team races into the Division 2 state finals at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday with guarded optimism and a bit of confidence.

The Hawks are soaring after beating top-ranked Ionia in last weekend’s regional at Carson City.

Forest Hills Eastern, ranked No. 5 in the state entering regionals, beat the runner-up Bulldogs, who have been dominant all season, by 14 points.

“Confidence is high, but there is still a level of being level-headed and realistic,” Forest Hills Eastern coach Jeremy Hurley said. “It was a regional meet and a little smaller and we beat them by 14 points, and at a state meet with 30 teams, that point level will change drastically. More kids will affect the scoring even more.”

Still, the Hawks seem to be peaking at the right time.
