Saugatuck girls take third at Portage Invite
PORTAGE, Mich. —

The Saugatuck girls cross country team, ranked fifth in Division 4, took home a third-place trophy at the 33-team Portage Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Heather Price led the way for the Indians with a fifth place time of 20:01, which was a personal best. Fellow sophomore Allison Jenkins also had a personal best time of 21:05 to finish 15th.

Also earning medals for Saugatuck were sophomore Jane Wiley (25th, 21:18), senior Madeline Peterson (35th, 21:39), freshman Jade Murzyn (43rd, 21:50) and senior Katrina Phillips (48th, 22:00).

The Indians were one of four of the top five-ranked teams in Division 4 competing at the invite. Rockford won the girls’ race with 108 points.

The Saugatuck boys placed 11th of 33 teams with runs from Ethan Lievense (sixth, 16:29), Sean Kelly (21st, 17:19), Sig Steiger (18:38), James Broe (19:21) and Josh Bird (19:22).
