HESPERIA—Performance is all about improvement and that’s the goal for any athletic team: to keep working harder to get better. The harder you work, the better you get is an objective that came true for the Saugatuck girls’ cross country team at the regional competition last Saturday, Oct. 30.

Last year the team came in third at the regional and they knew going into this year’s competition that to move up in the regional standings it would take a lot of hard work to keep the team running as a group, but that’s what they did.

The hard work paid off with a gutsy team performance that saw the Indians knock off the third-ranked team in Division IV, Hesperia, to take the top regional team honors this year.

Coach Angelina Bauer said, “These incredibly tough ladies beat out the number three-ranked team by 12 points for the win on an equally incredibly hilly, muddy, tough but excellent cross country course.
