Saline boys cross country second in Class 1 at Bath Invitational; Chelsea’s Pappas wins Class 2 race

August Pappas set a Chelsea High School junior record while winning the Bath Invitational Class 2 race for the second year in a row and Saline finished second in the Class 1 final team standings.

Pappas’ winning time of 15 minutes, 56 seconds was the fastest turned in by any runner in all divisions at Saturday’s event.

Chelsea placed sixth in team scoring with 186 points. Williamston won the Class 2 event with 39 points.

“August had a great race,” said Chelsea coach Eric Swager. “We had a few fine performances, but team-wise, we are a long way from where we want to be.”

Saline placed four runners in the top 12 to finish second in Class 1 with 70 points, 15 behind first-place Rockford. Joe Lipa led the Hornets with a fourth-place finish in 16:29 and Andrew Harper was seventh in 16:41.

Huron was seventh in Class 1 with 194 points. Kevin Egedy led the River Rats with a ninth-place finish in 16:42.
