ROCKFORD GETS TOP SPOT AT BATH CROSS COUNTRY: While Rockford did not put a runner among the top four finishers in Saturday’s Bath Invitational, starting with Grant Gunneson the Rams were charging.

Gunneson’s fifth-place showing highlighted a group of four Rams among the top-13 as Rockford (55 points) topped second-place Saline in an overcast, foggy early morning race.

“Saline is a very good team. Beating them by fifteen is pretty nice,” said Ram coach Andy Martin. “Our fifth man decided it for us. We were up two (points).”

That was until freshman Drew Woznick took 23rd overall in following teammates Spencer Gerber (sixth in 16:41), Drake Veitenheimer (eighth in 16:41) and Steven Ek (13th in 16:57).

“From last year, we’re well ahead,” said Martin. “This was a big test for us.”

Ian Hancke of Haslett took first place overall by running 16:09.

Having concluded the third week of the season, Rockford will head to the Spartan Invitational on Friday at Michigan State University.
