Potent Braves roll to county track title – DailyPress.net | News, Sports, Jobs, Escanaba Information | The Daily Press
RAPID RIVER – The Gladstone boys piled up points like cordwood Thursday, romping to their sixth straight Delta County track title with 280.11 points. Runner-up Escanaba had 130.22.

Esky trailed only 44-42 following its victory in the 800-meter relay. But the Braves, led by Casey Olson, grabbed the top four places in the 1600 run for a 72-42 advantage over the Eskymos.

“Twenty-eight points in the 1600, that’s a lot of points,” said Braves’ coach Gary Whitmer. “That certainly gave us some separation, and it all seemed to snowball from there. Our distance kids really stepped up. We just told them to run strong and smart.”

Gladstone, which also placed four in the 800 and 3200, was just as dominant in the field events, winning four of the five events and collecting 92 points.
