Pirates run to dual win over BulldogsBRIGHTON — In a third of a century of coaching, Brighton girls cross country coach Gary Meehan said Tuesday he had never seen a dual meet like the one his team had with Pinckney on Tuesday.

“We ran times that would have won the state finals 5-6 years ago,” he said. “It’s incredible how these teams performed today. These were two top-five teams that were truly up to the challenge, and they took it a notch further.”

And his team lost.

The Pirates won 27-30, in a duel that saw 13 runners under 20 minutes 15 seconds, a blazing pace.

Pinckney took three of the top four spots, then got a key finish from Jessica Wines, who finished eighth, high enough to give the Pirates the victory.

They were paced by Callie Clark, who was chasing history down the stretch. She tied the school record of 18:34 with a blazing kick.
