Pioneers race to 2nd straight Jack Pine title

The Clare High School boys cross country team clinched its second consecutive Jack Pine Conference title at home Wednesday, finishing second in the third jamboree with 45 points after winning the first two of the season.

Roscommon placed first on the day with 43.

Harrison finished fourth with 104 points and Farwell was fifth with 124.

“By winning the first two races, we just needed to finish in the top two today and we did that,” said Pioneers coach Adam Burhans.

Ghazey Aleck took third in the race at a time of 17:09, while Tanner Vida was fifth at 17:38. Brandon Frank finished eighth (18:15), Lucas Combs was ninth (18:16), and Caleb Bugai was 18th (20:28).

Harrison’s Blake Allison won his third straight conference jamboree in a time of 16:00, earning him the Most Valuable Runner award. Bobby Schmidt was 10th (18:32), Ray Ostrander took 16th (19:47), and Paul Conrad was 46th (40:38).

Luke Schultz led Farwell as he was 12th (18:53), while Greg Shimmons took 22nd (20:47). Bobby Byard was 26th (21:24), Josh Gross finished 28th (21:42), and Aria Militello was 41st (23:49).
