Saturday’s temperatures were not a welcome commodity for track and field athletes. But the end result was a welcome one for the Walled Lake Central boys and Novi girls teams.

Despite the blustery and snowy conditions, and the sub 30-degree temperatures, those two teams emerged the victors of the 48th running of the Oxford Elmer Ball Invitational.

Walled Lake Central’s boys team collected 121.5 points, sealing the crown with a win in the 1,600-meter relay. Holly was a close second with 113 points, with Novi (91.5), Lake Orion (71) and Oxford (65) rounding out the top five. Walled Lake Northern was sixth (41), while Clarkston (28), Pontiac Notre Dame Prep (26), Dearborn Divine Child (24), Bloomfield Hills Lahser (24), Rochester Stoney Creek 11th (17), Madison Heights Lamphere (15), Pontiac (13), Birmingham Seaholm (8) and Waterford Mott (5) wrapped up the teams scores in the boys standings.

Novi’s 101.5 points to win the girls crown was just enough to nip host Oxford, which finished with 101 points. Holly (67), Walled Lake Central (63) and Birmingham Seaholm (59.5) were next in the field of 16 schools. Waterford Mott (48), Pontiac (42), Stoney Creek (40), Lake Orion (36), Notre Dame Prep (30), Clarkston (25), Lahser (23), Utica Eisenhower (23), Lamphere (3), Warren Regina (1) and Birmingham Marian (0) followed suit.
