NORTHPOINTE CROSS COUNTRY GIRLS “STEP IT UP”: Moving up from Division 4 to Division 3 this year, the NorthPointe Christian girls cross country team knew a challenge was ahead of them to run against larger schools. The team has responded to the challenge with a year that has featured some great results in meets the Mustangs have competed in.
“Our motto this year is ‘Step it Up’ and as a Christian school that means much more than just on the cross country course. It involves growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ as well as excelling academically,” said NorthePoint coach Todd Schenck. “I’m starting to see that happen for the girls and it carries over to the way we’re running as a team and starting to close gaps.”
With various girls involved in more than one sport as well as the flu season this year, it has been a challenge for the Mustangs to field a complete team for every meet. This past weekend in the Gobles Invitational, the lady Mustangs could only bring their top three runners to the competition. Grace Campbell, Betty Soper, and Anna Duckworth placed in the top three positions for the meet but because the fourth and fifth runners were not available, NorthPointe finished fifth through adjusted scoring.
