No rebuilding necessary for Gull Lake’s girls cross country team

RICHLAND — The girls on Gull Lake’s cross country team have even surprised themselves this season.

Scanning the results after last Saturday’s Holly Invitational and finding her team in the No. 1 spot, junior Liz Klein had a hard time believing it.

“I don’t think we expected that at all,” she said. “When we saw the results, we thought it was wrong.”

After losing seven of their top 10 runners from their state qualifying team to graduation, the Blue Devils figured they would be in rebuilding mode this season.

But the process has happened more quickly than co-coach Brad Portis expected.
