Milan girls cross country claims victory at Springport Invitational; boys finish fifth

SPRINGPORT — Angela Swain clocked in a second place time of 20 minutes, 32 seconds, steering Milan to victory on the girls side of the Springport Invitational in cross country action on Wednesday in Springport.

The Big Reds cruised to first place with 52 points in the 10-team event. They were followed by Jackson Northwest in second (58) and Napoleon (111) in third.

Trailing behind Swain were Milan’s Jenna Manor in eighth place (21:36), Kelly Copland in 12th (21:51), Tara Lewis in 14th (21:57) and Danielle Anderson in 16th (22:12) to round out the scoring. Laura Heath added a 19th place finish (22:27) to give Milan six individual medalists.

On the boy’s side, Milan finished fifth with 112 points in the 11-team field. Winning the meet was Stockbridge (79), followed by Napoleon (84) and Eaton Rapids (89). See full standings here.

Nathan Anderson paced the Big Reds with a 12th place time of 18:25. Next in line was Tyler Fisher in 17th (18:51). Finishing the scoring were Ike Fink in 19th (18:56), Carter Hayes in 31st (19:31) and Dylan Miller in 33rd (19:36).
