Middle School 1600 showcase May 4th
The 13th annual Bay City Western Invitational (Friday, May 4th) has a new twist for 2012. We are adding a heat for middle school boys and girls in the 1600. We will run one heat for each gender and schools will be allowed 3 entries per school. I figured we need to put these kids on a big stage and experience a large high school invitational atmosphere in order to hook some of these good young athletes so they don't stray to lacrosse and other spring ball sports. We will race it just before the high school heats. Information will be up at http://www.bcwinvite.com soon.

Sounds good, Mike. We have a dual meet on Thursday, but will probably rest our top milers to run in your HS meet Thursday. Should be fun!

BUMP this thread for middle school coaches - or high school coaches with strong middle school athletes.

Enter up to three athletes in each of the boy and girl 1600m showcase races - or you can enter more with an additional qualifier time of 5:30 for boys and 6:10 for girls to increase the field if you have a strong distance squad.

Contact BC Western coach Mike Nesbitt for info.

This could become a great tradition for a FAST middle school 1600m race!

Are you allowing unattached runners to participate? Ann Arbor public school kids cannot represent their school at meets outside the district. Would love to have my 8th grade son participate.

Yes, he should be able to race. We changed things up last year by moving the middle school races to earlier in the meet around 4:00. We will run the boys and girls heats of the 3200m relay and then we run the middle school heats. Last couple of years featured multiple sub 5:00 for boys and multiple sub 5:35's for girls. Feel free to contact me at nesbittm@bcschools.net . This year's meet will be on May 1st.
