The rules meeting looks like it launched early, it is now up, it is 71 slides and is about 28 minutes long. There were three small quizzes to take during the slide show. There were even questions about michigancrosscountry.com but I don't want to spoil the "rules meeting."
This is a copy and paste from an email I received today:
Online rules meetings for coaches and officials of cross country begins today. This service is available 24/7 through Sept. 13 for cross country.
Head coach attendance in cross country is mandatory. If a school's designated head coach for cross country fails to attend online, that person cannot coach at this fall's MHSAA tournament in the sport involved. There is no "makeup" test for cross country.
Urge your coaches to take advantage of the time and gas savings that these meetings encourage.
To access the meeting, your cross country coach should go to:
1. http://www.mhsaa.com/MyMHSAA/CoachServic...tings.aspx
2. Click on the link for the online rules meeting
3. Watch the online rules meeting video, complete the survey and print your certificate of completion - if you don't have a printer, a copy will be emailed to you
4. If you are both a coach and official, you will receive credit for both
The deadline for completing the online video is Sept. 13. If you wait until the last minute and attempt to complete this and our servers are too busy to handle the request, NO credit will be given. So, plan to complete this sooner, not later.
If you have any questions, please contact the MHSAA at 517-332-5046.

I just tried to do the rules meeting and the wonderful, oh-so-useful MHSAA web site told me that "a critical error has occurred." This happens pretty much every year, doesn't it? Maybe if they would spend less time worrying about whether a shirt has different-colored stitching and how best to keep kids from attending out-of-state post season meets, and more time FIXING THEIR WEB SITE, the MHSAA would actually have a decent web site.

I got the same thing. They have spent a lot of time on the website with varying results I know. One thing they added recently that is good is officiating examples. Two things they added that make no difference in my life are twitter and facebook :-)
I hope that someday they add the ability to simply read the text of the speeches and then take the test. I suspect I'll pass :-)
I know how hard they have been working on the test as I had some involvement in it. So I bet they are frustrated with the misfire and will be working on it ASAP.

I passed but it gave me no indication of it once I clicked the finish button, hopefully I don't have to go through it again.

Same here, dlodes. I emailed Mark Uyl and he fixed it. Send him a note and you should be able to get your certificate.

It worked today. After you take the test, in the control panel, you click on view certificate and you can print it. I can't imagine why I want one ... to hang on my wall?
I thought it was a good thing overall. I missed one "trick" question (added a "not' in it or something that fooled me as I read to fast ...) thinking I was smart enough to quick read and answer :-).

Whenever a website launches anything it could have a few bugs, we are probably the "testers" and I would guess that 500+ coaches have not heard that the rules meeting is on-line. My guess Don will need to tweek his directions on how to register for athletic.net a few times over the next few months.
Rules meetings have come a long way since I had to drive over 100 miles to Escanaba or Marquette back int he late 80s to hear the meeting. I would happily trade 4 hours of driving for a 28-minute rules meeting.
Cross country specific rules meetings are a only two-years old for the MHSAA. Cross country coaches were covered by the trackand field rules meeting in the past. It seems like there are very few things to cover for the MHSAA at a cross country rules meeting. I would guess that 75% of the slides are on the uniform and uniform issues.
