MHSAA needs to abolish rule that punishes our top athletes

All William Gholston and Devin Gardner want is a logical explanation why they are no longer eligible to play high school athletics in Michigan.

Gholston is the Detroit Southeastern senior linebacker who committed to Michigan State and wants to play basketball or even swim for Southeastern right now.

Gardner is the Inkster quarterback who committed to Michigan and longs to help the Vikings basketball team reach the state semifinals, just like he did a year ago.

But according to the Michigan High School Athletic Association, their playing days as prepsters are over.

“I’m mad I can’t be playing,” Gholston said after watching his teammates lose to Detroit Pershing. “It’s frustrating because I can’t understand why.”
