MUSKEGON — Placing four runners in the top 12, the Mason County Central boys cross country team won the nine-team Muskegon Oakridge invitational on Saturday.

The Spartans totaled 46 points to nip the Class A Muskegon Mona Shores Sailors, who had 54 points.

The Hart Pirates came in seventh place.

“I’m glad we won but it just seemed like we ran with heavy legs today,” said Central coach Ed Sanders. “We ran on Tuesday and then we ran on Thursday up in Kingsley against Benzie. It’s hard to run three races in one week. And it’s hard to get a practice in there, too.”

Senior Jared Lauber paced the Spartans by taking second place in a time of 16 minutes and 55 seconds. Junior Dan Deller was right behind him in third place in 17:01. Senior Jake Hernandez took seventh in 17:33. And senior Chris Conrad finished 12th in 18:00.

BOYS TEAM RESULTS: Mason County Central 46, Mona Shores 54, Middleville-Thornapple-Kellogg 98, Muskegon 132, Muskegon Orchard View 141, Oakridge 151, Hart 165, Shelby 236, Ravenna 286.
