Marlins reclaim CHSL track and field crown

By Dan O’Meara • OBSERVER STAFF WRITER • May 24, 2009

Upon reflection, nobody should have been too surprised at Mercy High School achieving what it did in girls track and field last week.

The Marlins have a history of winning Catholic High School League championships, and they managed to do it again Tuesday.

Mercy overcame what seemed great odds to dethrone Dearborn Divine Child and capture the A-B Division crown for the fourth time in five years at Livonia Ladywood.

Divine Child was thought to be an overwhelming favorite to repeat, but it ended up in third place behind the host Blazers and Mercy (122 points).
