Marlette Invite

MARLETTE — The Bad Axe girls and Cass City boys came away with the titles here Tuesday at the Marlette Track & Field Invitational.

On the girls side, the Hatchets were able to hold off Cass City as they scored 108 points, to the Red Hawks’ 104. Marlette was third with 98 points, followed by Mayville (74), Sandusky (72) and Brown City (64).

Taylor Breault was the only individual winner for Bad Axe as she took the discus (99-8).

The Hatchets also won the 400 relay as the team of Taylor Wolschlager, Kara Flynn, Kim Schenk and Samantha Breault won in 54.74. The 1,600 team of Katie Grifka, Kati Frantz, MaKenzie Tolin and Cassandra Hanson also placed first (4:42.38).

Grifka was also second in the 400 (1:06.78).

For Cass City, Jennica Richards turned in a fine day, winning three events, and setting a meet record in one.

Richards won the 100 hurdles in record time (16.24). She also placed first in the 300 hurdles (52.72) and 800 (2:42.51).

Freshman Jessa Prieskorn also netted a pair of firsts and a meet record. She won the 1,600 in record time of 5:55.00 and also took the 3,200 (13:00.23).
