Lakers’ cross country continues strong season

Spring Lake’s girls cross country squad captured another first-place finish at the second Lakes Eight Jamboree on Tuesday, held in driving rain and wind at Orchard View High School.

Led by senior India Peek Jensen’s first-place showing, the Lakers outdistanced runner-up Ludington by a comfortable 40 points, 32-72. Fruitport was third with 77 points and Grant finished with 86.

“As a team we are making great strides each week,” Spring Lake coach Aaron Andres said. “Each girl knew that this was going to be a difficult meet. Ludington has improved each meet we have raced the past couple of weeks. Fruitport also ran a strong race and we had to stay focused and make sure we had no letdowns.”

With four finishers in the top 10, the Lakers wouldn’t allow a letdown to happen. Aside from Peek Jensen, sophomore Halle Billinghurst also had a strong performance by placing third (20:32.2); senior Hannah Nyboer was sixth (20:49.0) and Rosie Seitz took seventh (20:53.3).
