Jenison track teams fall to Grand Haven

Greg Chrapek | Advance Newspapers, April 28, 2009 4:21 p.m.

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP – On a day that even a duck wouldn’t enjoy, the Grand Haven track teams sailed into Jenison and came away with a pair of wins.

Despite wind, rain and temperatures not far from freezing, the Grand Haven girls claimed a 76-52 win while the Buccaneer boys won 64-59.

“It was miserable out there,” said Grand Haven girls coach Katie Kowalczyk-Fulmer, “but it was miserable for both teams. Jenison has a good team and it was a pretty close meet. We had some good performances but no PRs due to the conditions.”

Grand Haven was led by its distance runners. Priscilla Vanheest won the 3,200-meter run in 12:34.9 while Becca Addison won the 1,600 meters in 5:20.1. The team of Perez, Haring, Weisgerar and Thomas won the 3,200 relay in 10:20.91. Addison was a double winner for the Bucs as she captured the 800-meter run (2:22.18).

Freshman Jordan Keefe was also a double winner for Grand Haven. Keefe won the 100-meter dash in 13.9 and the 200 in 28.27. Other winners for Grand Haven included Alex Schurkamp who won the 300 hurdles (52.72) and Jo Fleming who won the discus (99-9).
