Holly Girls and Linden Boys Head Into Metro Harrier Meet at 9-0

The Holly girls’ cross country team and the Linden boys’ team have the advantage of perfect dual meet seasons going into the Flint Metro League cross country championship meet on Tuesday at Oxford Hills Golf Club. The FML league meet counts for half of the overall league standings, putting the Bronchos and Eagles in position to defend their league championships by finishing first or second on Tuesday.

The girls team at Holly has used team depth to go 9-0 in league duals, with Destiny Lukianoff, Shannon Westfall, Jennifer Beckner, Lauren Powell and Carly Schroeder forming a solid pack in their races this fall. This depth helped them defeat Oxford 28-31 and Linden 25-30 in September.

Linden (8-1) will try to finish ahead of Holly on Tuesday to claim at least a co-championship, led by Heidi Sack, Mayce Varacalli, Karrah Varner and Sayre Jedele. Oxford (7-2) needs help to win at least a share of the title, hoping to win the league meet while having Holly drop to at least third place. The Wildcats are capable of doing just that, led by individual championship contenders Brooke Kovacic and Ashley Burr. Fenton (6-3) can play spoiler, led by their own individual championship contender in Taylor Thorpe, who is backed by Ellie White, Callie Toaso and Jillian Toaso. The Fenton grouping finished with a Metro League-best third place in the Genesee County meet two weeks ago, 48 points better than Linden.
