Higher, faster, stronger on display at GMAA city track meet

Local reports | The Muskegon Chronicle, May 07, 2010 10:56 p.m.

The Olympic motto of “Higher, Faster, Stronger” was on display at Friday's city track meet at Oakridge High School.

Nasty Michigan spring weather was also on display, but no need to dwell on that.

“Higher” best applies to Mona Shores senior Keontre Miskel, who capped an incredible week by clearing 6-4 to win the high jump.

Miskel really turned heads on Tuesday, when he and Larue Layton of Reeths-Puffer kept pushing each other higher and higher in a meet at Shores. By the time it was done, both had set personal bests and new schools records – Miskel cleared 6-9 and Layton 6-6.

“It was the greatest feeling of my life when I got 6-9,” said Miskel, a senior who will play wide receiver next fall at Grand Valley.
