BROOKLYN — Heritage finished for in the top seven for the third-straight year at Brooklyn, scoring 234 points for sixth place. Detroit Catholic Central won the state title with 68 points at Saturday’s Division 1 meet at Brooklyn’s Michigan International Speedway.

The Hawks top runners finished in a pack, but only sophomore Evan Chiplock emerged as an all-stater. Chiplock ran a 16:22 to tie for 30th place and snatch the last all-state spot.

“That’s a nice accomplishment for a sophomore,” Heritage coach Gary Loubert said. “The times were a little slow across the board and he beat several all-staters from last year.

“We battle for the team stuff so there was no focus on the individual times. But he ran like a veteran out there.”
