ELLSWORTH – Harbor Springs boys’ cross country coach Mike Kloss knew his runners had it in them.

On a muddy, hilly and overall windy and wet course Friday at Ellsworth’s Sports Plex, it all came together for the Rams.

Harbor Springs placed all seven of their runners in the top 15 to claim the Division IV regional title, finishing with a convincing 54-point victory.

The Rams, ranked No. 5 in the state coaches poll, finished with 30 points, while Onaway took second with 84 points.

Central Lake and Boyne Falls finished tied for third with 89 apiece, and the Trojans won the tie-breaker based upon the sixth runner’s place. Harbor, Onaway and Central Lake advance to the state finals on Saturday, Nov. 7, at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

The Harbor girls made it a clean sweep as they cruised to the title by a 44-point margin. The Rams, ranked No. 2, finished with 22 points, while Boyne Falls was second, 66; followed by Wolverine, 109.
