JENISON—The Hamilton boys’ track and field team placed second in Division II at the Michigan Track Coach’s Association track meet Saturday, May 23. The track meet features the top 13 track teams in the state and is based on the overall balance of a track team rather than the performances of one or two outstanding individuals.

Hamilton’s track team has been highlighted all season with individuals who ranked high in the state with their individual events as well as several role-players who have filled in the relays and depth placements during meets that have made the Hawkeyes such a dominant force this season.

Head track coach Kevin Spotts said, “The team placed second at the MITCA team state meet and we had some outstanding performances, including Zach Heerspink winning the high jump (6’5”) and long jump (21’8”) and relay members Matt Tyink, Mike Hoffman, Austin Schild and David Ptacek in winning the 800-meter relay and team members Troy Sneller, Rob Field and Dakota Sale in winning the 1600-meter relay. Sneller also won his specialty, the 300 hurdles.”
