The Hamilton girls cross country team won a Division 2 regional championship on Saturday, placing all five of its scoring runners in the top 20 and earning a trip to the state finals on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.

Freshmen Molly Oren (second, 18:44.2) and Cathy Coryell (fifth, 19:34.8) led the third-ranked Hawkeyes, and Oren’s time set a school record.

Emily Oren (12th, 19:43.1), Sarah Oren (13th, 19:43.6) and Alyssa Slayton (19th, 19:58.1) rounded out Hamilton’s 51 points, which put the team 27 ahead of runner-up Otsego at Portage West Middle School.

The Hawkeyes boys team finished ninth with 261 points, but Taylor Compton qualified for the state finals individually as he ran a school-record 16:08.5 good for third place. He beat the old record by 15.5 seconds.
