GRAND RAPIDS — Jacob Kuyvenhoven says his Grand Rapids Christian cross country teammates have a long memory.

Long enough, in fact, to make erasing the disappointing memory of last year’s Division 2 state meet a priority.

Grand Rapids Christian finished 17th at the state meet, but with five top runners back from that team, Kuyvenhoven said the Eagles’ No. 1 goal is returning to that meet for radically different results.

“We didn’t run with a sense of urgency and show what we’re capable of,” said Kuyvenhoven, whose winning time of 16 minutes and 31 seconds helped Grand Rapids Christian win a third consecutive OK White Conference jamboree Wednesday at Gainey Sports Complex.

“Now, we want the chance to rebound.”

The Eagles boys and girls cross country teams have an excellent shot at qualifying for the Nov. 6 state meet at Michigan International Speedway in Jackson. The girls, who also won their third consecutive OK White jamboree, are ranked first in Division 2. The boys are ranked fourth.

Grand Rapids Christian joins Ionia and Otsego as the only schools in Division 2 to have both boys and girls teams ranked in the top 10.
