It was two years ago that Greg Russick told his Grand Haven girls cross country runners that they had what it took to win a state championship. The Buccaneers made Russick’s prediction come true by outrunning regional foe Traverse City Central and rival Rockford to capture the Division 1 state title at Michigan International Speedway. At the same time, about 90 miles away, WMC was wrapping up its own state championship with a 2-1 victory over Ann Arbor Greenhills at East Kentwood.
