Haven cross country teams divide, conquer

Mon, Oct 5, 2009

Grand Haven’s boys cross country team placed sixth against a difficult field at Carson City on Saturday, and also sent a contingent to the Fruitport Invitational, where the Buccaneers placed third.

Coach Tom Laughlin sent his top seven runners to Carson City and the rest of the team competed at Fruitport.

“Carson City gave us a good indication of how we stand for the O-K Red Conference meet and regionals, since it had some of the top teams in the state there,” Laughlin said. “By placing sixth, (we) defeated East Kentwood and all the rest of the O-K Red schools with the exception of Rockford. We were also beaten by one team in our region, Caledonia, which beat us by only three points.”
