The Greenville Yellow Jackets girls track team has been rewarded for their outstanding season.

The Yellow Jackets are one of a select number of teams that have been offered invites to the annual Michigan Interscholastic Track Coaches Association (MITCA) Team Track Championship in Division 1. The event takes place Saturday at Jenison High School.

The Yellow Jackets were invited due to their No. 10 standing in the MITCA Division 1 Power Rankings. The top 14 teams along with MHSAA regional champions received invites. The MHSAA regional runner-up receives an invite if the regional champion declines the invite. Teams are not required to participate.

The MITCA championships allow teams to bring the top three athletes in each event regardless of place or time in the regional meet.

“I was jumping up and down and so were the girls when we found out about the invitation,” Greenville coach Amanda Gerhardt said.
