Garber girls cross country wins Cedar Bend Invitational in Gladwin

The Garber girls cross country team traveled to Gladwin on Saturday for the Cedar Bend Invitational. The Dukes made the trip worth it, they came away with the victory.

“After many 2nd place finishes this season, our girls team finally pulled off 1st place today,” Garber coach Sarah Knapp said after the victory. The Dukes had seven runners finish in the top-30.

Leading the way was Amanda Himmel, she finished third with a time of 20:01. Whitney Piotrowski finished in 10th place with time of 22:07 while teammate Megan Keen was close behind in 11th with a 22:13. Other impressive Dukes finishes went to Tiffany McInosh in 23rd with a time of 23:12, Ann Wittbrodt in 25th with a 23:20, Mary Whiteside in 28th with a time of 23:29 with Kayleigh Nelson in 30th just one second behind with a 23:30.

Garber won the event with a score of 72. Saginaw Heritage was a close second with 76 while Hudsonville Freedom Baptist was third with 104. The hosting Gladwin placed seventh with Gladwin

Other area teams included Roscommon in eighth, Hale in ninth, Tawas in tenth, Standish Sterling in 11th and Oscoda in 13th.
