COMSTOCK PARK — If Frankenmuth girls track coach Jamie Engel had it his way, the Michigan High School Athletic Association would blow up its state championship trophy so every athlete could have a piece of it.

Instead, Frankenmuth High School will house the 2009 Division 3 state championship trophy that the Eagles captured Saturday at Comstock Park. As a well-oiled machine, Frankenmuth gathered 68 points to easily beat runner-up Benzie Central’s 48. Albion won the boys meet.

The Eagles return to their city with their first girls state title since 1991, putting the team above all individuals.
