Flushing boys win Greater Flint Area Cross Country Championships for first timeDURAND, Michigan — The boys’ championship trophy in the Greater Flint Area Cross Country Championships didn’t bear an asterisk.

It went to the best team running the 34th annual meet Thursday at Dutch Hollow Golf Course.

For the first time, that team was Flushing, a school with a solid tradition but which has usually been overshadowed by the likes of Powers Catholic and Grand Blanc.

Grand Blanc is the undisputed No. 1 team in the Flint area, ranked No. 2 in the state Division 2 poll. But the Greater Flint championship was up for grabs, with the Bobcats skipping the meet to be fresh for the prestigious Portage Invitational on Saturday.
