Flint-area three slated to compete in NCAA Division 1 cross country championships

Three area runners are on the rosters of teams which qualified for Monday’s NCAA Division 1 cross country championship in Terra Haute, Ind.

Corunna’s Patrick Grosskopf and Fenton’s Joe Dimambro are part of the Michigan State men’s which team which qualified by placing second at the regional meet with 128 points to Wisconsin’s 62. Grosskopf led the Spartans by finishing fifth, covering the 10-kilomter distance in 31 minutes, 12.98 seconds. It was the best regional finish by a Spartan since 1995.

Dimambro was the Spartans’ seventh runner, taking 56th in 32:33.65.

New Lothrop’s Rachel White helped the University of Michigan women’s team receive an at-large bid to the championships. The Wolverines placed third at the regional. White was UM’s seventh runner, finishing 58th, covering the 6K distance in 22:25.54
