Falcon’s early season success leads to Top 5 national ranking

21-0 Conference Record. 3-Time defending MITCA State Champs. Defending MHSAA State Champs. Numerous All-Conference, All-State, All-American performances. Pretty nice resume for East Kentwood’s boys track senior class. Determined to improve upon their previous 3 years, the EK seniors have led their team to an unblemished record (5-0 OK Red, 2-0 Invites) and a Top 5 National Rankings on NikeTrackNationals.com.

WMA had a chance to sit down with seniors Jon Henry, Kody Dantuma, and Robbie Rix after their 107-30 victory over the Buccaneers of Grand Haven. We talked about the team’s success so far and their goals moving forward, staying motivated, and what’s next for these soon to be grads.

Motivation can be a big issue for a team with such amazing depth. The top runners can very easily take a day off and let the others “pick up the slack.” When asked if how they avoid complacency, Henry, who is heading to Western Michigan University to play football for coach Cubit and the Broncos, quickly answered with “no matter what we can always improve our time. If we don’t have anyone to compete with, we still have our times that we can beat.”
