Division 1 girls track title up for grabs

The last five Division 1 girls track and field titles have been won by Ann Arbor Pioneer or Detroit Mumford. Mumford won titles in 2004 and 2005 and finished second behind Pioneer in 2007.

Pioneer has won the last three titles and has finished first, second or third at the state meet in 26 consecutive years. Over that span, Pioneer has lost just three dual meets.

But the dominance of those teams might come to an end in East Kentwood this year. Mumford coach Marc Parker doesn’t have the bona fide stars he’s had in years past, and Pioneer coach Bryan Westfield says his team’s streak of consecutive top-three finishes is in “serious jeopardy.”
