Concord High School boys cross country runner Spencer Nousain of Concord said it was a dream of his to finish 1-2 with teammate Kyle Stacks at the Michigan High School Athletic Association state meet.

Saturday, that dream became a reality, as Stacks won the Division 4 state championship in 15 minutes, 54 seconds, and Nousain was second in 16:09 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.

Concord used that 1-2 finish as a springboard to the Division 4 team title. It is the seventh boys cross country championship for Concord and the first since 1986.

“It’s so amazing to go 1-2,” Nousain said of the finish. “(Stacks has) been pushing me all season.”
While Stacks and Nousain were leading the pack, it took more than two runners to capture the championship. The day of cross county ended with a fire truck escort through the streets of Concord for the team.
