One of the nation’s most prestigious high school track meets is scheduled to return to its birthplace. The Midwest Meet of Champions will come back to Fort Wayne in June 2010 and June 2011.

The meet brings in the top senior track athletes from Indiana, Michigan and Ohio in an all-star format and attracts hundreds of Midwest track enthusiasts.

“It’s been a long time since Fort Wayne hosted this meet and we think it’s time,” said meet director Tom Knudson, a Northrop teacher and track coach.

“There is such prestige involved in the history of this meet. It should come back home.”

The meet typically rotates among host cities in the three states but hasn’t been held in Indiana in more than a decade. And even then it was in the Indianapolis area. But Knudson and several other area coaches have joined forces to bring it back.
