Centreville girls take St Joseph Valley cross country title

Kalamazoo Gazette, October 21, 2009 2:20 a.m.

CENTREVILLE — The host girls squad swept the St. Joseph Valley league meets, including the championship Tuesday with 38 points.

“The girls knew they could do it, and it’s a great feeling to win the conference,” Centreville coach Rob Collins said. “We’re very happy to achieve one of our goals, but we’re going to get right back to work.”

The Bulldogs squeaked past Mendon, which finished with 41 points.

Sophomores Amber Stevens and Shaina McLain finished fifth (23:17) and sixth (23:22) to lead Centreville.

“They are a really good one-two punch,” Collins said. “They’ve run on the regional and state level before, so you know what to expect out of those two.”
