CARSON CITY — The Calvin Christian boys cross country team has done its talking with its feet this season.

The Squires have been one of the top teams in the state in Division 3 all year, and proved that point Saturday by winning the boys Gold Division of the 35th annual Don Baese Invitational, hosted by Carson City-Crystal High School at Fish Creek Sportsman Club.

In a meet that had the feel of a mini-state finals because of the number of quality teams competing, Calvin Christian won its title with 62 point — 66 points better than runner-up Kent City.

“It’s exciting,” Calvin Christian coach Laurens TenKate said. “This is the first time we won this, we were second here last year. We had a hard week of training, and they worked through that today. We are a young team and we hope to keep this rolling.”
