BYRON CENTER WINS LAST CHANCE INVITE: The Byron Center boys and girls cross country teams both won the Last Chance Invitational at Union last weekend. The boys won with a combined time of 1:29.31 and the girls had a time of 1:49.34. Each team won by about four minutes.
“It felt good, we’ve won three years in a row, and it’s a fast course,” said Byron Centers coach Todd Foster.
Junior Jeff Sattler won the boys race with a time of 16:20, and coach Foster thinks that Sattler is peaking at the right time and has a good chance of breaking the school record of 15:56. On the girls team, Junior Cassie Peterson was first overall with a time of 19:43, and junior Julie Oosterhouse 20:07 was second on the team.
The boys team (5-2) finished third in the O-K Green, and have no seniors in their top-7. The girls (4-3) finished fifth at the conference, and coach Foster thinks they will need some of their best times of the year at the regional meet.
“It’s going to be very competitive, but I’m very confident,” said Coach Foster.
The regional tournament is scheduled for Saturday at Fellowship Greens Golf Course in Kentwood.
